Naturally, all my bits are slightly different, but I can tell
you that my experience with an older SiS chipset showed that the
solution is most often to just wait until XFree86 catches up
with it.  This is one of the many reasons why it's always better
to buy old laptops -- they're more likely to just work.  Of
course, there may be an actual solution for this, now; if there
is, I hope somebody can tell you what it is.
