I don't have sufficient influence as to what terminal the software to bend to.
I came across an emulator called wy60, which appears to do a very good job 
with regards to the function keys. The symbol display bit is a bit off 
though.

I know anzio and actually like it but anzio appears to be limited to windows.

I actually tried vt320-ish emulations but they did not quite cut it.
