Well persoanlly I like using the Mandrake installer to do my partitioning.
I boot on the installation disk, partition the new HDD, writing down
what the new partition names are (/dev/hdb1 etc) then reboot.
I edit my /etc/fstab manually to add in the new partitions and their
mount points.
