you'll probably find that there are jumper settings on the back of the drive 
next to where you connect the cable that you can set so that the drive 
operates as a slave.  Typical settings are Master, Slave and Cable. The Cable 
setting takes the position of the HDD on the cable to determine whether it 
should act as Master or Slave.
