Regarding Outlook (include versionnumbers here)
Choose "More Settings" and then select the "Search" tab. Here
you need to specify the base search path, which we also specified
to ldapsearch using the -b option. Type dc=addressbook, dc=example,
dc=com in the text field labeled "Search base" and then choose
    OK.

If you don't include this, it will take "c=AU", which totally stuffs
up any "default base DN" you have configured in the slapd.conf.

According to IANA, there is support for LDAP server definition in
DHCP (http://www.iana.org/assignments/bootp-dhcp-parameters and
then
http://www.iana.org/assignments/bootp-dhcp-extensions/bootp-dhcp-option-95),
but I don't know how good Outlook handles it (if at all)
