Now that this discussion has started, and after I saw my load
skyrocket to 25(!) because of SpamAssassin (seems I finally tickled
its bugs?) I'm wondering if there is a tutorial on how to interpret
sar(1) output or similar?

Playing with options and having a working knowledge of how a system is
put together is enough to get gross ideas of what's going on, but I'm
sure there are subtleties I'm missing---or maybe even a better tool?
