This isn't as simple as it sounds. In this case, you're limited
to the "backup, reparition and restore" method if you want to
change the partition sizes.
In the interim, try the symlink solution...
*If* you've prepared in advance (which is what I suspect occurred
with the Solaris host at your work), then it's a straightforward
matter. Search for "Logical Volume Management".
