HUMBUG itself does not run a news server, although it has been suggested a
number of times over the years. Several HUMBUG-connected people to
gateway the HUMBUG mailing lists onto their own news servers, which is not
quite what you want.
If retention of articles is the problem, then I'd suggest that you run
your own newsserver solely for the newsgroups that you are interested in,
using something like leafnode (search freshmeat.net).
