Hi.  Unix has many utilities that are useful for this purpose (and had
them long long before ms-dos/windows :)

I like using dump for this sort of job, but even tools like tar will do
a good job of it.  Some people may suggest dd also but I don't think it
adapts as well to this sort of task.

This is a bit of a quick overview - late here, gotta get to sleep :)
I'm sure others will expand out on this.
