The term "Carbon" applications are classic MacOS (pre OS X) with
patches to run on OS X natively without running on the Classic mode.
The term "Cocoa" applications are written MacOS X exclusively or
specifically.
The "Blue Box" is the environment that sits on top of the Darwin
(FreeBSD-based) kernel, which is the base of MacOS X, that runs the Mac OS
X desktop environment, which contains the MacOS/Apple GUI environment.
By the sounds of it, the MYOB AccountEdge is most likely a
"Carbon" based application.
To put it in a lighter note, Mac OS X programs that runs on the
GUI is not really portable to other Linuxes/BSDes.
