Currently, there are only plans to release x86-64 in RHEL form, but that 
can change. If you're going to run heap-um big server, you probably want 
RHEL anyway.

Completely different architecture - the ia64 is the one that hardciore 
computer scientists desire above all else, x86-64 is the one that 
actually works.

ia64's native 32 bit emulation is unbearably slow, so intel has pretty 
much resorted to writing an ia32 emulator in ia64 :)
