For those playing along with Debian GNU/Linux, here's the
interface definition from /etc/network/interfaces.

    iface mall inet dhcp
        wireless_mode "Managed"
        wireless_essid "ourbrisbane wireless"

Of course, if your card+driver supports it, just use "any".

    iface wifi inet dhcp
        wireless_mode "Managed"
        wireless_essid "any"
