I finally got this all sorted out. I ended up finding a mob in the US,
Marathontech
http://members.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewUserPage&id=1272898

Final cost was $US 85 for 2 of them delivered to my door, quite a bit
cheaper than anything I could find locally (single units were going for
over $65 ea on ebay).

The down side was that one of the units was pretty much DOA as someone
had attempted to remove the case and in the process managed to scratch
some tracks and mangle some of the pins on the cache chips. To be fair
to the supplier the damage wasn't obvious until the case was removed and
the CPU did actually manage to get through the POST on my board and
simply reported a cache error. I suspect that some BIOSs probably
wouldn't report that error.

The plus side was that they have replaced the faulty chip without any
complaint or requests for more money for shipping. I was most
impressed. I really did expect them to try and sting me for some
shipping or something.

Cheers,
Michael
