Hi
I am going to attend one of your meetings one day - if I can find a way to
get there.
I have tried to install Mandrake 9 and RedHat 8 on my comp, but neither of
them will install properly.
Mandrake doesn't like my video or monitor (not sure which) and simply puts
me in a loop not able to find a driver that works, asking me to choose one
then telling me it doesn't work, choose another. I have chosen them all, but
none of them work, so we never get any further than that.
RedHat 8 can never find my printer (a Lexmark Z32) or my sound card.
Interestingly RedHat 7.3 can find my sound card, but sadly not the printer.
CUPS tells me that even as root, I do not have the authority to change the
settings for the printer.
It isn't exactly user friendly.
Everything I do seems to make the it worse, which is made worser still by
the fact that I have no idea what I should be doing.
Does anyone know why this would happen?
Where can I get a book that will tell me it simple terms? My local bookshop
has nothing on Linux of any variety.
