Hi,
Re. the recent thread about scanners support by Linux....
As a general hint, if anyone is looking to purchase a new scanner that
is supported by Linux: EPSON Perfection 1260 (Photo).
Megamart had a good price on the Photo version ($299) but they may be
out of stock now; the non-Photo version is $239 or thereabouts.
The Photo kit is an add-on that allows you to scan negatives.
Anyway, EPSON is well supported via SANE, even EPSON themselves provides
Linux drivers via their website. You will need a recent 2.4 kernel so
that the USB drivers can detect the scanner properly.
Similar story for EPSON inkjet printers. Well supported via CUPS, EPSON
themselves also has some drivers avialble via their website.
The print quality for photos is very good.
I have an EPSON Stylic C60 myself.
Regards,
Arjen.
