Everyone else has covered the basics of the operation well (I've been
offline for most of the day unfortunately).  Anyway, I was to say I agree
with Jason - I prefer the use of dump/restore for this sort of operation.
Rsync is good and tar will indeed do the job without a problem (just look
at your switches).

If you're using tar make sure you don't copy /proc and don't bother with
/tmp, /var/tmp, your cdrom or floppy as these may get caught up in a
blanket tar of the system.

I again reiterate my preference for dump/restore.  Unfortunetaly reiserfs
doesn't support any utilities like dump/restore but this is unlikely to
effect you :)  For those interested, xfs has xfsdump & xfsrestore (such
utilities are common in the unix world).
