I was under the impression that a network is more secure with the ADSL
modem feeding into a separate Ethernet card and then going out to the
network switch on another card. That way, firewalling is done on the Linux
box with no mixing of external (not secure) and internal (secure) traffic on
the same Ethernet port. It made sense to me but hey, I stand ready to be
corrected. (as usual!) I gather that doing it the other way makes sharing
the ADSL independent of any one machine? In my case, I have a Linux
box doing duty as file server, ADSL gateway, etc so works well for me.
