List,
Does anyone have experience getting one of these little beasties to
work?
$ lspci | grep -i audio
00:12.0 Multimedia audio controller: C-Media Electronics Inc CM8738 (rev 10)
$ dmesg | tail
cmpci: version $Revision: 5.64 $ time 00:11:34 Jan 31 2003
cmpci: found CM8738 adapter at io 0xe800 irq 10
cmpci: chip version = 033
The module loads fine (well, soundcore.o loads automatically and I
load cmpci.o by hand) but the sound quality is just *terrible*; static
and other noise interferes with the sound output.
It's not the speaker---I've tried a pair of headphones which work
great. I've tried frobbing the various settings available through the
cmictl program. I've double-checked that I've selected the correct
driver. I've checked for OSS modules for this card (I can't see there
are any). I've tried updating the kernel (I seem to recall it was
working at some point, but I don't know when). I've tried browsing
the changelogs and patches, but it's an awful lot of work and nothing
is jumping out at me.
The hardware is a pretty plain peecee, running 2.4.20 with the XFS
patches from SGI's CVS server.
I'm out of options. Anyone?
Cheers,
jason
