Programs are broken into smaller packages. libperl5-dev for example (btw
I made that name up) would be different to libperl5 and glibperl5 would
be something different entirely.

Just because it says you need 'perl' libraries of some sort, doesn't
mean that perl wasn't installed. the particular parts of perl that you
need for apache may not have been installed.

also, if you're using the package lists for unstable or testing, you'll
be getting different versions than the ones originally installed.

<unhelpful rant>
tasksel is not the best tool for installing particular packages as
unfortunately, experienced installers know. most experienced installers
i know only install the base system and then use apt-get to install
everything they need/want. As you've discovered, you usually end up
becoming familiar with apt-get very soon after installing debian.

I hear they're working on a better installer. I eagerly await it. Until
then, I continue to sit close-by with my friends/family who want to try
debian, otherwise resign myself to ssh'ing in afterwards to clean up and
install what they *actually* want instead of what they thought they were
getting.
</unhelpful rant>
