Are you certain you have a parallel port drive?   (for a 1gb drive
this would suck---parallel ports are pretty slow compared to scsi).

Are you sure the cable is not in fact a 25-pin _SCSI_ connector.  It
uses exactly the same plug as a PC parallel port, but of course will
not work on a parallel port.
