I was about to recommend the same thing.  I don't think it does
auto-replying but it does almost everything else, with the advantage of
being able to handle multiple POP/IMAP/SMTP servers.  There may be a
plugin to provide this functionality.  It'll even do OpenPGP, using the
Enigmail <http://enigmail.mozdev.org/> plugin.

And yes, I agree, I avoid Outlook like the plague, if I used that mail
client, I would have lost my Win2K installation (perhaps even the
machine) due to various malicious emails (such as 'patches from
Microsoft to correct holes in IE & OE', it's a shame I use Mozilla.  I
think their viruses/trojans anyway)
