Perhaps you have! If you are new to all of this perhaps you need to try
Xandros Linux which has just been released. It is the easiest Linux
install you will ever do and will connect to both Windows machines and
Linux machines on the same network "out of the box". It also installs
internal Linmodems (modems based on the Lucent chipset) once again "out
of the box".

Xandros is based on Debian (Woody) and is the revival of Corel Linux
(after Corel was saved from bankruptcy my Microsoft and somewhere along
the way agreed to drop development of Linux. (Funny that!!)

Anyway, everything you read (www.xandros.com) about this new distro is
true - the Deluxe version has Codeweavers Crossover built in and while
the purists will think this is sacrilige (spelling?), it certainly makes
Linux attractive as an alternative desktop - especially if you prefer to
use MS Office instead of Open Office (which is also installed by
default). I see you are Ormiston College and if you are doing this for
the College, then tha ability to install Office 97 or 2000 (XP not
supported yet) along with Internet Explorer, Outlook Express and Outlook
just might be a bonus.

If you do not wish to try Xandros then I would recommend Mandrake 9.1
which now has a simplified install but does not do any of the fancy
footwork that Xandros does.

Regards,

Rick
