Both Robert Brockway's and Arjen Lentz's suggests are good, failing
that you can use a combination of dd and other evil dodads.
As it can vary greatly from system to system, I won't provide an example,
but a good read of telnet(1) should help you on your way. The key features
you're interested in are forcing 8 bit data paths and automatic
logins.
You may also want look into the use of expect(1) on the host you're
connecting from.
Sometimes sending 8 bit data over a telnet connection can do funny
things, so the use of uuencode(1) or mimencode(1) will turn it a
base64 encoded stream.
