[H-GEN] kernel version numbers

In relation to Linux Kernel numbers. As I understand it, an odd minor
number (the 3 in 2.3.x) represents a development or unstable Kernel and
an even minor number represents a production or stable Kernel. If this
is the case what is the development or unstable version for the 2.0
Kernel? or did this numbering system start after 2.0.
