Hi All,

I have recently reinstalled Red Hat 7.3 and Ximian Gnome Desktop on my
workstation and have tried to get my Matrox G400 dual head video card
working in dual head mode under Linux with no luck.

Has anyone here actually been able to get dual head support working
fully in Linux? It seems that anaconda will detect the card fine, but
then fails to configure the second head. Even after following the
instructions found at
http://staff.pisoftware.com/bmarshal/publications/xinerama.html and the
Xinerama HowTo X fails to load with proper multi-head support.

The Xinerama HowTo says that Xinerama doesn't require the same
resolutions on both heads, but that it does require the same bit depth.
I have configured the main display to run at 1400*1050 at 16 bits, and the
second display to run at 1024*768 at 16 bits but this still does not work.

The display comes up with what appears to be a wider than normal screen,
but there's nothing on the second monitor. I cannot seem to get the
second display to fire up under X - the monitor itself is working fine -
plugging this monitor into another PC proves this.

I'd really like to make use of the second output on this card. I can
include my XF86Config-4 and gdm.conf files if it will help.

Oh - I'm running Red Hat 7.3 and Ximian Gnome Desktop with XFree86 ver
4.2.0 if that helps, too. I'm thinking of installing Gnome 2 here - I
gather its better than the older version. I'd like to get dual head
working first, tho.
