We recently [1] updated to FreeBSD 4.7 on our
gateway/firewall/mailserver, and in doing so upgraded our version of
sendmail and a few of the m4 files that come with it.

I now have a problem where I can send mail from a workstation behind the
box, but not from the box itself. I strongly suspect this is due to the
new submit mechanism where receiving via smtp is sandboxed. When mail
comes from my workstation it's an accepted domain that we relay for, so
that's okay. But for some reason mail seems to be going into this queue
not via localhost but via ADSL. And when that's resolved it is not one
of the domains we relay for (ah, the joy of dynamic IPs).

Attached is an excerpt from the maillog. Can anyone suggest how I might
go about fixing this, please?

We use dynamic dns with dyndns.org so that *.walters.homeunix.org points
to our machine. Something else that might be contributing:

---
sarah at tempus etc$ host localhost localhost.
Using domain server:
Name: localhost.walters.id.au
Addresses: 127.0.0.1

localhost.walters.homeunix.org is a nickname for walters.homeunix.org
walters.homeunix.org has address 144.137.78.251

sarah at tempus etc$ host localhost. localhost.
Using domain server:
Name: localhost.walters.id.au
Addresses: 127.0.0.1

Host not found.
---

This worries me, and might be the real cause. If localhost resolves to
walters.homeunix.org, and then a reverse lookup is done on the IP I'll
get a Telstra IP. Can someone please tell me if I'm going in the right
direction here? Now I've got to try and remember the root password
(grumble).

Thanks,
Sarah Walters

[1] Well, I've had this problem for about a month, but I've been working
around it. It's getting annoying enough now that I want it fixed.
