I had a problem and fixed it but does anyone know why a symlink would
"reset" whenever the box was restarted.  This box is a workstation and the
symlink, after the installation of a modem was, correctly, /dev/modem ->
/dev/ttySHSF0.  After a restart it kept defaulting to /dev/modem ->
/dev/tty/0.

After deleting /dev/modem (rm /dev/modem) it suddenly reverted to
/dev/modem -> /dev/ttySHSF0.

Just wondering?
