Sorry, I forgot to say that I have also used that utility, however on the
remote server I do not have access to it so the only option I can see is to
use a command that I run from a web page.
Any ideas?
Paul.

There is a utility that comes in the MySQL package called mysqldump. I
suspect this is exactly what you're looking for. Look at the man page for
mysqldump for an introduction. Then check this url for more complete doco.
http://www.mysql.com/documentation/index.html
In there you will also find information about importing the dump file to
another database.
