I've finally admitted defeat. I'm installing IRIX 6.5 onto a SGI Indy,
and couldn't get it for the life of me to install of a Linux box
running rsh.
I had an older Pioneer CDROM at home that I know works with Unix
systems (i.e. allows booting), but as it turns out, it's broken and
won't detect media in the drive.
So I beg and borrow a single speed CDROM known to work with SGI
systems, and set about installing. Boots fine off the original media,
starts installing, and due to an inability to get the original
foundation cds for IRIX, I burn a copy.
Argh! The CD drive has a problem reading good quality Kodak CDR discs.
So, here's my plea. Does anyone know how to get the IRIX installers
rsh to interact with Linux's, or have a good quality external SCSI CDROM
that they'd be willing to let me borrow sometime to install with?
