I haven't noticed that CVS is *slow* per se over SSH but I have seen a
lot of problems terminating SSH-inspired CVS sessions: commits and
logs and such will simply never terminate. I'm told this is a problem
that gets tossed around between the SSH people and the CVS people.

These days I use RCS unless I'm planning to share development with
others (rare) or I want to have the stuff backed up (FSVO).
