Edwin and Bruce are quite right. Two things I would add to the mix are:
first, you should look in the CVSROOT module of the repository for any
scripts that might be trying to send mail or use some other service that
no longer works as expected; second, in my experience pserver is a pain
and I would recommend using SSH (and the CVS_RSH=ssh variable) if
possible. This has the advantage of 'just working' and is also encrypted,
etc.
