First of all, good to see you've contacted the RHN people and let them 
know. We can't fix anything we don't know about!

rpm -qf /path/to/foo is what you want.

If up2date is really being unco-operative, you can just install the rpm 
updates manually, do an rpm --rebuilddb and an up2date -p, and then use 
up2date again.
