I'm quite surprised no one has mentioned it so far, but there are
actually companies that do data recovery off broken media.
http://www.datarecovery.com.au/ is one group that I know of, and there
are a few others.
It'll cost you, but given the alternative of the unemployment queue
(been there - not again thanks), I'd be ready to hand over the money.
