FWIW I was running Debian Potato and have been very impressed with it's
stability.
That being said, I have now abandoned Debian if favour of Mandrake 8.1.
The reason I did that is simply that Potato is so far out of date it is not
funny. This probably would not matter if you were prepared to just install
the base system and then download the latest debs for all of your
applications such as MySQL, Postgres, Apache, and KDE etc.
That was not practicable for me because I am on a slow and expensive dial-up
connection. Consequently I am limited to what I can get on CD.
I don't know if Debian Woody is yet available on CD, nor just how stable it
is yet.
