I should clarify - by "broken", I mean "causes dependancy conflicts".

Sorry about the emphasis but I see too many such comments which are
unfounded.  Have probably experienced one conflict which was resolved by
removing "check dependencies" in my RPM installer and then force installing.
I run both methods of updating without any dramas at all.  Red Carpet is
particularly slick as it will automatically download any missing
dependencies and install them at the same time.
