There are really two parts to your question namely, 'What can I use
instead of the protocol SSH?', and 'What can I use instead of OpenSSH (a
particular implementation of SSH which appears seriously flawed to me)?'.

In answer to thie second question you could use one of the many commercial
SSH clients. One example would be the 'original' SSHD which is available
from SSH Communications Security at 'http://www.ssh.com'. The O'Reilly
book on SSH provides a comprehensive list of alternatives which is also
available at 'http://www.snailbook.com/software.html'.

The answer to your first questions is (to my knowledge) that you have no
other options. I do not know of any other protocol that offers secure user
authentication AND encryption between client and server. I guess (from
reading others posts) you could get this using Kerberos and telnet/ssl but
this is going to be far more work than you need.

HTH,

Raymond
