The problems do not relate to X, also the do not apply if you are not
using the kernels vga console driver. Do you know the configuation of
your kernel?

The likley hood of that is so small I'd need and Infinite Improbability
Drive just to figure it out ... where are Marvin and Eddy when you need
them ;)
