We just connected to Telstra ADSL (their 3GB plan was the best we could get).
We opted for the self-installation and said we had Windows XP (which we do).
We got a 4-port hub/modem where the machines connect via ethernet for the same
price as a 1-port usb modem if you get professional install. Definitely worth
it. We wanted more than the uber-basic routing capabilities, so we're operating
the modem in bridged mode to our RH7 box, which is doing full NAT. It's been
going very smoothly, and we're very happy with it.

It's an Alcatel SpeedTouch Pro. We signed up for a 12 month contract with
Telstra, so we got the install and modem for about $250. We're with Telstra
for long-distance calls, so we get a discount on the cost of ADSL. It's quite
reasonable, and we calculated that once you top 1.5 GB it's cheaper to be on
the 3 GB plan than the 1.5.

Hope that helps.
