[H-GEN] possible 2 create self executing tar.gz's?

Curious how one would do this under unix. The unix versions of the sun 
jdk are distributed in this manner [1], I vaguely recall other packages 
I've used that are similar. any ideas how to do this under *nix?

I had a quick poke around the man files for tar, bzip2, gzip, nothing there.

[1] the sun jdk's ask the user to read (long) document and enter 'yes' 
prior to extracting files & installing.
