[H-GEN] Rebuilding kernel modules

On my P200/64MByte (a Dell Optiplex Gxi) the bzImage+modules is taking 4
hours,
with the modules accounting for three hours of this. I feel this is slower
than it should be.
Any suggestions? Does running without X-windows herlp at all?
