We use a method here where passwords are generated based on a key and host.
You remember the one key for all machines, and change that every few months.
Then you update all root passwords at the same time. The key can be something
simple, such as "car". So you would pass "car" and hostname to the script, and
it would spit out the same password every time. Of course, the program that
can generate these passwords must be run as root, and it takes two passwords
just to get into the machine that can do this, with restrictions on what
machines can ssh in to that machine.
