I tried to get an integrated AC97 sound device working under RH72 at one time 
also.  After various attempts I was lead to believe that the only option was 
to download & install the relevant ALSA driver(s).  Alas, even this didn't 
work for me.  So, in the end I simply spent the $30 to buy a PCI Sound 
Blaster ??128??.   *shrug*

If nothing else, $30 cheap treatment for severe bruising to the forehead.
