No more "Destination Host unreachable". A new PCI Realtek 8139 did the 
trick.  :-)   It seems that the ne drivers from RH 7.0 and above are 
non-functional. The NE2000 clone is back in the Windows machine where it 
does actually work. Thanks guys, and particularly Robert Kearey.
