Personally (no offence intended) I prefer to comlpile my own kernels,
that way you absolutly know what is/isn't supported. It also makes me
feel warm and fuzzy - but that's enough about that ;)
Generic kernels might be alright, but they are also so generic and
packed full of crap that you might or might not want that you are better
compiling one that is tailored for your machine and you needs, if that
means you need a patch then patch away :)
