Indeed. Until relatively recently I used a 486-33 with 16 MB of
RAM as my gateway, mail server, general master name server, web
server, firewall and a few other tasks. It handled that just
fine and was only retired when its last disk died. I am now
preparing a Pentium-100 to take over that job because that's the
slowest box I have available.
Not that I advocate forking useless processes as a programming
solution, but that's really another topic.
