I have setup several Samba servers using Mandrake 8.0 and 8.1.

I am able to share the printers connected to them but I am trying to
make it easier.

I noticed that if I share a printer from one Win9x box to another the
one connecting in doesn't ask for drivers for that printer, somehow it
knows what type of printer is being shared and what drivers to use,
even if the driver doesn't come as default in Win9x.

After some experimenting I have found that when you turn on the printer
sharing the Win9x box creates a hidden share called PRINTER$.

I connected to this share and found that it points to the
C:\WINDOWS\System directory.

What I was wondering does anyone know which files the connecting box
checks for the printer type and the drivers, where does the sharing box
keep the drivers that the connecting box copies over?

I would like to emulate this on the linux box (create the PRINTER$
share and copy the required files to it) so the plebs that want to
connect to the printer/s on the server are not asked what drivers they
want to use. They always stuff it up no matter how many written
instructions you leave them.
