YAY ! Well said. If I ever need to resort to using ed again [1] I will have
to break out the man pages [2]. Someone bagged joe in an earlier response
for some reason that was not fully disclosed apart from some vague reference
to google *peers at Rob*. Personally, I quite like joe, but then the first
editor I really ever learnt was WordStar 2000 [4] and the common key binding
still come naturally to me, even after all this time and there is built in
help for those that I don't use too often when I get a bit rusty

[1] I wrote a lot of my thesis using vi and ed some 18 years ago and haven't
touched them since[3]
[2] And yes, they may not be available on *that* machine, but who doesn't
have access to another machine these days?
[3] I also didn't touch unix for about 13 years, but that's another story
[4] Rather an ambitious naming convention for something circa 1980
[5] I like footnotes....
