I have Telstra ADSL at home, which seems to be the only high speed
option in Canberra until TransACT comes online. I'm very happy with
the speed, and it works well under Linux with the Roaring Penguin
PPPoE driver.
However, it does go down several times per week, and the installation
people are very unpunctual and not well informed about the product.
If you answer the right way, they will give you a PCMCIA or USB
Ethernet nic, which you can tuck away until you get time to make it
work under Linux.
I used the phone support service to get the addresses of the outbound
mail relays (which don't seem to have any domain names, only
addresses), and they answered quickly and had the information.
In combination with WaveLAN cards it gives fast net access from the
sofa, which is pretty cool.
