If you are visiting UQ as staff or student you can get a good deal through
UQ's ISP see http://www.uq.net.au/. I still use them as my dial-up
provider.

Pacific Internet is supplying ADSL in Brisbane. I have heard that iPrimus
and/or Connect may also be doing so soon. In PI's case they are reselling
Telstra services at cheaper rates. I would say that the main reason to go
with ADSL over Cable is if you want a guarenteed static IP address which
is something the cable guys won't do. You should also be aware that ADSL
support is dodgy in the inner suburbs where cabling is often not up to
scratch.

Of course, if you can't get cable or ADSL you could always go ISDN like my
work :-(
