David Makepeace made a good point (in an Out Of Band conversation). The
data should not make any difference to the drive (it would have to be a
REALLY screwy firmware bug to have a problem like that). So maybe the
problem isn't the data, but where the data is coming from.
That made me realise that I've recently added an IDE drive to the system
(things like this change regularly, so it's hard to remember it all when
trying to work out a problem). In the past all my ISO images were on a
SCSI drive, but recently I've started putting them on the IDE drive (since
it has lots of space on it - that's the whole reason I got it).
I haven't yet had a buffer underrun (which would be a dead giveaway) but
David mentioned that he has seen difficulties when burning to a SCSI CDR
when the source is on IDE, while it's there were no problems when he moved
the source to a SCSI drive. Early in the 2.2.x cycle there were some
deadlock problems when IDE and SCSI buses were being mixed, so maybe I'm
seeing some similar problems due to contention here. (David's description
of symptoms on his machine showed a DEFINATE contention issue).
I'll try again tonight and see what happens.
